They're BACK!
David Steinberg
2008-10-01

It's 1 AM in the morning on a Wednesday. In 5 hours I have to be at work. Yet somehow I am not asleep. I'm typing away in order to try to work my way through the rush. I just placed a request for Phish tickets!

Five years. Five long years. It hasn't been all bad. I never would have gone to Alaska or been on Jam Cruise - sorry Julie but it looks like this next one will be my last time attending that for a while - or hiked the Grand Canyon or any of the alternative vacations I've taken these years. I got engaged - and thank you Phish for not conflicting with my wedding! - and put a new roof on my house. In many ways the break has been a great thing.

A few days ago when the rumor first surfaced, I expressed some distance. Yes, I'd like to see Phish back but I don't know if I'd jump right back in again. I've kind of moved on a little. Heh, yeah right. I've already done the run around the room screaming thing, followed by putting in a request seconds after discovering the link, followed by about 30 minutes of sheer stress over whether the order will be fulfilled. I sure am over it all right!

Phish may not have done this on purpose, but they hit some numerical alchemy in the date of their first show. Phish are coming back on 3/6/9. Schoolhouse Rock taught us that, "Three is a magic number," so it makes sense to return on that date. If they break up again, maybe they'll return on 12/15/18.

155 days from today Phish will be playing. After spending the last week focusing on an economic collapse, I'll now be thinking about that for a while. We may be headed straight into winter but the world just became a much brighter place.

…and hey, if anyone has a lead on extras, my email at the top of this column…

David Steinberg got his Masters Degree in mathematics from New Mexico State University in 1994. He first discovered the power of live music at the Capitol Centre in 1988 and never has been the same. His Phish stats website is at http://www.ihoz.com/PhishStats.html.

He is the stats section editor for The Phish Companion and is on the board of directors for the Netspace Foundation. You can read more of his thoughts at http://www.livejournal.com/users/thezzyzx.
