From The Editors Well this has been quite a month.I'll be honest with you, the most exciting aspect of it has been spending time with my daughter Caroline. She is six weeks old now, and starting to get the hang of things (to the extent that there are things for a six week old to hang onto, of which admittedly there are few, although my hand comes to mind).
What else? Well I've been finalizing the jambands.com tour. We worked really hard to put together some fun and interesting bills here. This time out, we have ten shows in the northeast (including 2 massive nights at the Wetlands and a Biscuit-fest on Martha's Vineyard) I hope you will come out, support the bands and hang with us.
Next? Well, we have two new webmasters. The swell Sarah Bruner (also our western regional editor) and the statistically-inclined David Steinberg (of ZZYZX column fame) are sharing the duties once solely fulfilled by Andy (we had to bring in two kick ass folk to take his place). Andy is now going to focus his energies on building a site that will begin from the tours data base and become very much more. Of course we'll all be linked together as one cohesive unit. I am anxious to see the results :)
Did I mention my daughter, yet? Okay, okay.
Back to jambands.com tour. We are in the process of trying finalizing a mail order ticketing system for these shows. We would love to do it but this issue has proven somewhat tricky so it's up in the air whether it can come about. If we end up offering mail order tickets we promise to send all sorts of bonus goodies to people who mail order for a number of shows (the specifics will appear on the jambands.com tour page soon). If not, well, just come on out to the shows and we'll still have plenty of items for you anyhow :)
See you in June (and I'll talk with you next month).
later days and peace,
Dean
Passin' It On
by Andy GadielYes it's true...I have handed over the duties of JamBands.Com Webmaster to two awesome publishers so that I may concentrate my efforts on upgrading the Tours Database!
I have felt the potential of this project for quite some time, and am now implementing it in a completely new website to be launched after the first of May. The new site will be bigger, faster, and more efficient than the current database. It will also grow to encompass more than simply tourdates. The goal is to link together all the facets of what this music touches in a clear cut relational form and present it in a way that is easy to use.
Needless to say, I've got my work cut out for me. You'll have to wait a little longer to see the results, but I think it will be worth the wait.
In the meantime, you can still add your dates to the current database using the forms at http://www.jambands.com/tourdates/addshow.html and they will be available for viewing now and in the new system once it launches. If your band has a website, please e-mail that to me so I can add it to the database as well. The transition to the new system should happen smoothly around the first of the month, with hopefully limited downtime.
In other news, I am also heading down to the mecca of music, The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. For those of you also going, be sure to check out Jammin' at Jazzfest, a comprehensive guide to the festival created by JazzFest guru Alan Dorchak...quite the compilation of information. Also check out The Official Jazzfest Site for more information as well.
So that's that...lots of new and exciting things in the works, and all to hopefully bring this wonderful community of music lovers closer together. If you have any idea or suggestions for the new tours database, please don't hesistate to pass them my way.
Peace,
Andy Gadiel
