"Hey Jambands folks. I have a question for you. I enjoy the radio station
(okay the Sonicnet ads can be slightly annoying but let's face it they're
better than the crap we hear on commercial radio). Anyhow, I wonder why
you don't have more live sets on the station- maybe break things up with
some live shows a few nights during the week. That would be cool, no?"
Dean answers
"Well, yes that would be cool, however, the Sonicnet Radio stations just
aren't set up like that. We don't have the ability to break in
and alter the programming. Instead, what happens is we sift through the
albums and songs available on the system, submit a play list that
identifies which tunes should appear with what regularity
and then individual playlists are randomly generated. It's a cool thing
which really ensures a diversity of sounds. Beyond that, in terms
of hearing live music, there are plenty of places to go on
the internet to hear live downloads (of varying quality, and incidentally,
we are in the process of talking to some folks about adding a webcast
fuctionality to jambands.com). However there
aren't any other places where one can go to hear such an array of bands'
official recordings. I think it's important to expose people to these
releases- please read
my editorial which addresses the
issue this month."
