NEW MEMBERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations to the newest members of the Home Grown Music Network: Blueground Undergrass, Hypnotic Clambake, Jive Talkin' Robots, Max Creek, Moses Guest, and the Seth Yacavone Blues Band. Keep your eye here for interesting news on these bands!

Spotlight on: Moses Guest (www.MosesGuest.com) or ( www.homegrownmusic.net/mosesguest.htm)

Moses Guest is a Texas-based, groove-rock-jam band with a southern inflection. The band has created a sizeable, grass-roots support network over the last few years by touring regionally and nationally. In 1998, Moses Guest was invited to play the H.O.R.D.E. Festival. Moses Guest believes that bands that work hard at the grass-roots level, like Dave Matthews, can build huge, perpetual fan-bases, which provide both artistic and economic stability. Backed by its own record label, Aufheben Records, Moses Guest has become an entity in control of its own destiny. Moses Guest comes out sounding ripe for today's demand for integrity, longevity, melody, and jam.

Recent News:

Newest member of The Home Grown Music Network which is a rapidly-expanding nationwide music network for jam-related rock bands. Original members (Guest, Thompson, Horton, and Edwards) are all on board for eternity, live or die.

Moses Guest was nominated for "Best Rock/Pop Band" in the July 1999 Houston Press Music Awards.

7/24/99 Wise Monkey Orchestra, Winston's O.B. CA.

Earlier in the week I met with Reed, the main dude from "One Drop", Wise Monkey's management company. Reed asked me to bring the deck out, and of course I did. The venue is a tough one to try and grab a good tape not to mention it was a Saturday night and the bands last area performance before they hit the road for their first East Coast tour. The place was packed elbow to elbow before the gig even began.

I surveyed my normal setup spot and quickly concluded that it was impossible to record using a mic stand anywhere. The microphones would pick up way to much crowd noise in such a rowdy joint. So I placed the mics on my hat and went center dance floor. I closed my eyes to avoid my paranoia from the scene that surrounded. With my eyes shut I grooved with the band assuming my role as a human microphone stand in a bumper pool tournament.

Wise Monkey grooved for nearly two hours without break. They moved from one soulful moment to the next as the crowd went crazier then Reverend Jim on acid. I mean the OB'rs were going insane all night long. The band attacked from the start and kept up their original musical assault moving from a soulful groove to a psychedelic funk with some mind blowing electronics and rhythms held together with a phatty jazzed out horn section that melding with some ominous lyrics and sweet vocals. They cranked up the night by kicking in a couple of brand new tunes as some of the band often traded off instruments.

The tape offered is 2 hours in length which includes the last hour and ten minutes from the above performance with a 50 minute filler from another "One Drop" band "Psydecar". Psydecar members include Wise Monkey Orchestra Drummer Ed Fletcher and Tim Pacheco on Vocals. Due to some minor xlr->rca chord problems I decided to cut the first 50 minutes of the original DAT. Keep in mind I was taping from the hat and my equipment is a bit worn and one of my microphone cables decide to be a little rude so I cut the first 50 minutes of the night. Starting the tape with a brand new tune that had never been performed. The tape quality overall is decent a pop or two at the starting point a few out of sync hand claps and some minor conversations but overall super decent considering the crowd size and venue. My deck was the only one running on this night.

If you can catch Wise Monkey Orchestra on their upcoming East Coast tour please come out and support them. The band would really like to have you bring your deck and pass the tunes around. If you're familiar with the venue make a mental note of power locations and whether a soundboard patch might be possible.

If you are unfamiliar with the venue be prepared to bring a battery pack, mics and or patch cable. Just keep in mind not all venues have power available and some do not allow access to the board. If you encounter a problem taping a Wise Monkey show be patient and ask for Reed the bands manager and at his next convenient moment he will discuss the situation and attempt to accommodate. Peace, Nick - Stacy Rickhold

I would like to begin by thanking everyone who responded to my last call for help. For those newbies or others, my name is Stacy and I am one of the organizers of a Play for Peace concert that will be held in Albany, NY on October 9th. When everything is in order I'll let everyone know.

I have a few requests/questions for anyone that would like.... First, after the Woodstock nightmare ... I would appreciate contact with any promoters out there that would be willing to talk to me. Second, anyone that would be willing to help us with publicity ... it would be greatly appreciated.

Here's what I know so far about the festival. 2 Stages, 13+ hours of Music. Tickets only $25 and should go on sale around August 15 through ticketmaster.

Confirmed:
Indigo Girls, Dar Williams, Stephan Smith

Most Likely:
Conehead Buddha, St. Catherine Street Jugband, Elderberry Jam, Andy Lipisto

Possible:
Zen Mothers, 54-40, Entrain

Thank you in advance for everyone's kindness. Have a great day.
