Well we’re back for yet another month of compelling Jambands.com action. Festival season is winding down but Labor Day weekend still looms large. I’m sure many of you will be at Hookahville, Garden of Eden or Summer of Love 35 Years Later. If you’re in Turin, NY though be sure you to check out the Jambands.com/Relix 3-on-3 moe.down hoop tournament.
On a more somber note, our community was saddened by the passing of Michael Houser earlier this month. Mikey had a spirit and style that endeared him to musicians and music fans alike and we honor his memory with two essays in our features section.
Meanwhile, as you may have guessed we’re really hyped up about the 3rd Annual Jammys. We’re returning to Roseland for the event that is part awards show, part group improvisation and above all else a celebration of the scene. I hope you can make it out, and at any rate, please vote.
As for our content, some of the features this month are drawn from the Terrapin Station Tribune, the newspaper we put together for the Grateful Dead Family Reunion (a fine event which bodes well for future tours from all members of the Grateful Dead extended family). As for other stories, I’m quite pleased pleased with the diversity of articles, focusing on, among other topics, Sound Tribe Sector 9,” Femi Kuti”:http://www.jambands.com/Features/content_2002_08_25.08.phtml, Jerry Joseph, Jeff Buckley and plenty more. In addition, beginning this month we’re dropping in some featured columnists and departments to showcase everything we have going on at the site. This time it’s David Steinberg’s ‘On Golden Tickets’ and Mike Gruenberg’s interview with BJ Thomas, but you knew that as you’re already checking out our columns and departments every month.
Well I reckon that’s all for now, see you at moe.down (and btw, I’m automatic from 20 feet and can take it to the hoop from either my right or my left).
later days and peace,
Dean
