(editor's note: over the past few months we have received poetry from a number of individuals- we even had a poetry contest for Hookahville tickets in our newsletter a while back. Now we are going to give all of you an opportunity to share your music-themed verse (and the like) with the rest of us. This month we offer a poem by Steven Shepard. On Cassettes

By Steven Shepard sshepard2000@yahoo.com

I meditate upon the cassette tape,
Spinning Beethoven's 1st reproduced from the library's rack.
It's a commitment fix, with music certain and deep.
A love for jam enthusiasts of my generation,
Came in the US Mail.

Hissing bad, running good, keep up to date
And informed with the intelligence of your plan.
It'll be off and so will you,
Quenching sunsets and growing up, from town to town.

A tool most perfect, perhaps, to turn with one
Station to the next.
You grasp the comfort of a portable pet,
The tape of JGB obtained this week past.

But..But..But..(Poem skipping)
CD's are pristine and faulty just as well.
All awkward, clanging, and jiggly, a tape I
Throw my hand around!
Yes, the trumpets ascend, the violins soar,
Tend to beauty and rhyme forever.
Bathed in orchestral drift,
On the money to make this tape Man!

For new ones now, there's the Breakfast (Psychedelic,)
And in the old, there's the Sun (Blind Man's.)
Beethoven makes his peak, I query my week,
More music I'll many days find.
