When the notice came through that Phish would be playing a one-night
stand at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City it was a little hard to
believe at first. Who was going to get the golden tickets for a show in
the smallest venue that Phish has played in America in what seems like
forever? And the more pertinent question, how were they going to get
them. Well as it turned out the grand band in grand fashion made it
possible for everyone who wanted those golden tickets to have them simply
by attending an all night party on West 52nd street, as well as around 3
corners and south to 42nd street.

There were a huge variety of activities taking place on the city
streets the evening of May 21st. And as you can see those who did not
make it in to the historic debut of Phish at Radio City Music Hall were
simply enjoying their time, because they were going to see Phish at the
Roseland Ballroom in two days.

As with any all night party the morning eventually comes and the
sun peaks out to brighten the day. By five AM the line literally
stretched completely around the block from the entrance to Roseland and
ten blocks south. Police had set up barriers around the first block and
a half but at approximately seven AM there was a stampede of ticket
seekers that turned a single file line into a crowded gathering that was
twenty people thick.

By 7:45 police put up the rest of the barriers and separated the huge
line into manageable sections. Among the entire melee, spirits remained
in peak condition in preparation for what would turn out to be one of the
most energetic shows in some time.
Erik came in from SanFrancisco for the Sunday night show and got on line
at 1AM. I asked what made the Radio City show special for him. "Just
walking in that place for the first time, it's amazing to see Phish in
such a classy joint."

Although he wasn't on line due to the fact that he had to catch a plane
back to the left coast on Tuesday (a situation that many faced) Jay came
to the line to play with his kids and enjoy the vibe.

Grog was on line from 5pm the previous day. He brought some carpeting to
relax on for all those who were there early enough.

Joe from Flagstaff, AZ was also in the fly home on Tuesday scenario, but
he was having a great time enjoying the sights

Jen and Gina were on line all night but had to run home to change for
work. They made it back in time to jump back in line to get their
bracelets.

Clay was extremely appreciative of the fact the he could experience New
York City in the morning with all of his friends.

Dave and Michelle were all smiles as was I when I saw my longtime tour
friends!

Christy Arcola from Surrender to the Flow
and Disco Biscuits lighting
designer Matt Iarrobino who had driven all
night from the Allgood Festival were in fine spirits.

William and Adrian's VW was parked right next to the line. Their bus is
named the Dawn Treader after the boat from the Chronicles of Narnia.

Bart and Tanya came in from the Big Easy for the Big Party.

Erica and Eddie assured me of an undeniable fact; "We are winning!"

As Bob and Rebecca sat in front of images of Broadway we listened to
'Strange Design' on there box and wondered what made an event like this
so special, the easy answer came from the music when Page's voice was
heard "can I bring a few companions on this ride?"
