PAYTON BRADFORD (FUTUREBIRDS)

What will you remember most about 2011?

Phew. Bonnaroo and ACL were certainly memorable. And a lot of fun. A lot of trips up and down I-95/85. The re-opening of the mighty Georgia Theatre (as both performers and patrons).

What albums appear most in your iTunes or iPod?

We listened to a lot of Gillian Welch. She cured whatever ailed us at the time. She always does. Darkness On The Edge Of Town was another one we dug into. And any version of “These Days” (usually Jackson Browne’s or Gregg Allman’s).

What was the best musical discovery you made in 2011?

Eddie The Wheel/Grass Giraffes (Athens, GA), Model Citizen (AL/MS), Alabama Shakes (Athens, AL)

What was your favorite show or tour of 2011?

Everybody felt great things at Bonnaroo. Our big hometown show at the Georgia Theatre was incredible too. The energy and excitement in that room pushed us to another level.

What musicians should readers look out for in 2012?

Grass Giraffes, Lee Bains & the Glory Fires. Who knows. These great bands seem to pop out of nowhere and wow us. I suppose that’s the blessing of the internet.

Are there any musicians you would like to collaborate with in 2012?

Taylor Swift? Or Kurt Wagner? What about the two of them together with us?

How do you plan to ring in the New Year?

Good question. We have a show in Atlanta on 12/30 with Washed Out. That may burn us out for the big night. But probably not.

Do you have any New Year’s resolutions?

“Don’t stop ‘til you get enough”—Michael Jackson
