BROCK BUTLER (PERPETUAL GROOVE)

What will you remember most about 2011?

2011? Hmmm… Let’s just say there’s a lot I’d rather forget. What I will remember to do in 2012? Eat a ton of – I mean a TON! – black eyed peas.

What albums appear most in your iTunes or iPod?

I have been on an Eels kick since around 2008. Newer things I’m running into the ground and wearing out on my band mates include: Dawes ( North Hills and Nothing is Wrong ); Noah and The Whale ( The Last Night on Earth ); Middle Brother; Florence and the Machine and… sniffle sniffle… I confess! I like the new Coldplay!!! I’m sorry!

What was the best musical discovery you made in 2011?

Noah and the Whale, I bought it on a trip to San Fran at AMoeba records. Because I liked the name of the band. I bought two CD’s of groups known to me. Noah was the least expensive, and I listened to the others maybe 2 times?

What was your favorite show or tour of 2011?

Three way tie… Dawes, Tom Petty, Roger Waters’ Wall.

What musicians should readers look out for in 2012?

All fellas that I cross paths with a good bit over my way. I think Zoogma (what the fuck is Zoogma you ask?) go see for yourself. I like them as people and as musicians. The former Champions.

Are there any musicians you would like to collaborate with in 2012?

Allen of Disco Biscuit and Dr Fameus, he and I have done pick up gigs several times, I’d like to really work a project and do a small run on what we might come up with.

How do you plan to ring in the New Year?

On stage, with a clever tune, shoot my champagne cork at an intelligent light. Same ol’ same ol’.

Do you have any New Year’s resolutions?

Too many. I have a power point presentation to the committee in my brain. Ultimately, I want to be a better person. Good to myself, and I think then I can good/ better to all that care. My band mates have kids, etc. And put on a few pounds I guess, long story short (too late?) I live better.
