REED MATHIS

What will you remember most about 2011?

2011 was a very busy year for me! I will always remember 2011 as the year TLG made our best record yet, Radio Tragedy! and found a brand new sound through touring it as a quintet with our newest member, the brilliant Cochrane McMillan. Plus, I grew an epic beard.

What album or albums received the most play?

This year I spent a lot of quality time with The Barr Brothers debut album, which blew me away! Also Fleet Foxes, Iron & Wine, and Radiohead all put out incredible records this year that I dug deeply.

What was your favorite show or tour in 2011?

So many great shows! I’d have to say the 2-night run TLG did in our hometown of San Francisco in September was a real highlight. Also the solo show I did at the International Beethoven Festival in Chicago was crazy!

What emerging band should readers watch out for in 2012?

Barr Brothers, Yellowbirds, Stone Foxes

What’s your New Year’s resolution for 2012?

I want to practice my instrument more, meditate more, love my friends more, squeeze more fun out of every show and every minute, and make the best music of my life!!

TODD CLOUSER (TODD CLOUSER’S A LOVE ELECTRIC)

What will you remember most about 2011?

We spent two nights in Prague playing at a club called Jazz Dock, right on the Charles River, you look up at the castle as you walk to the show, the crowd was howling and the hang with them afterwards was late and full of debauchery. That was the dream, music comes out screaming in places and times of wonder like that.

What album or albums received the most play?

Recently, Tom Waits’ Real Gone, Marc Ribot’s Silent Movies, Zappa records whenever possible

What was your favorite show or tour in 2011?

I really dug seeing JFJO’s “The Race Riot Suite.” Somewhere in the recent past new music has really become detached from its place in history, culture, evolution. JFJO made a statement about music being bigger than just the artist with the Race Riot record.

What emerging band should readers watch out for in 2012?

I hope Wicked Knee gets some love. It’s a band of legends, Billy Martin, Steven Bernstein, Curtis Fowlkes, Marcus Rojas.

What’s your New Year’s resolution for 2012?

Think young, stay healthy.

I would really like Deitch’s New Year’s resolution to happen in 2012. “Lettuce and Break Science at Red Rocks” – Abso-frickin’-lutely!
