Last tour in Europe with MMW. We hadn’t played there in many years as just a trio! And the audience was the most appreciative of all the directions we took – musically speaking.

What emerging band should readers watch out for in 2012?

Sadly, I can’t really even pretend to know. There is a big ocean with lots of life out there! Go for a swim and explore.

Any big plans in the works for 2013?

Yes! I’m writing music for a great Hungarian film maker named Szabolcs Hajdu. The film currently titled Mirage is starring Isaac De Bonkole as a soccer player. It’s a Western style film.

Also, I am excited and honored to be producing a benefit record for the Master Musicians of Jajouka with Ornette Coleman, Flea, Lee Renaldo, Mickey Hart, Medeski Martin and Wood and DJ Logic – to name a few! Howard Shore (Hobbit, Hugo, Naked Lunch) is releasing it on his record label.

And to start things off in January, Wicked Knee will release Heels Over Head on my label, Amulet Records.

2013 marks the 40th year of Relix Magazine. Do you remember the first time you read Relix? Is there an article that stands out for you?

It was the interview I did with Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann that I remember most fondly!

40 years?! Impressive. You guys are older than me so it might not come as a surprise that the thing that stands out the most to me is the web presence. So many established media outlets (not to mention artists) struggle with making the transition but the Relix page is great and I am directed to it constantly via Twitter shares.
