Auld Lang Syne Set 1: Stanton Moore, Kyle Hollingsworth, Karl Denson, Jesse Miller…

With 2013 in the rearview mirror, it’s time to look back at twelve months of music and memories.

STANTON MOORE – GALACTIC

What will you remember most about 2013?

Developing and recording my piano trio, starting my first Spirit of New Orleans Drum Camp and going to Disneyland with my wife and daughter.

What album or albums have you listened to this most this past year?

Honestly, the rough mixes of my piano trio record. Mixing takes a ton of repeated listening.

What was your favorite show or tour in 2013?

Snug Harbor with my piano trio on Saturday Dec 14. After playing many Tuesday nights and going into the studio we sold out both sets that night. The band played great and it was an amazing feeling.

What emerging band should readers watch out for in 2014?

Not so much a band as a vocalist. Galactic will be touring with Maggie Koerner in 2014. She’s new on the scene but definitely one to watch out for.

Any big plans in the works for 2014?

In addition to releasing several singles and touring with Galactic I’ll be releasing a record and playing more shows with my piano trio. We’re hoping to record with Dragon Smoke and the M&Ms as well. I’m also hoping to do more drum camps.

JESSE MILLER – LOTUS

What will you remember most about 2013?

We did a massive tour in the winter/spring, 47 shows over 11 weeks – that consumed my life for the first third of the year. Canceling our Red Rocks show due to flooding and coming back 3 weeks later to play while it was snowing and only 29 degrees. Releasing two albums: Build and Monks.

What album or albums have you listened to this most this past year?

Dawn of Midi – Dysnomia, Deerhunter – Monomania, James Holden – The Inheritors.

What was your favorite show or tour in 2013?

Gold Panda at Johnny Brenda’s (Philadelphia) and Mount Kimbie at Union Transfer (Philadelphia)

What emerging band should readers watch out for in 2014?

Moon Hooch opened a bunch of shows for us, and they were unique, energized and creative.

Any big plans in the works for 2014?

Yes – releasing an EP, a number of big shows and working on the next Lotus LP
