Okay, okay, I spoke too soon. Those of you who stop by each month
to read my blather may recall that last month I pledged to end "the crime
against nature" and bring sound to the site. Well we haven't...yet. We're
still working out the logistics, and we should be prepared to make an
announcement in a few days (look for updates in the news section).
However, we have entered into an agreement with EZCD.com which will allow
you to create your own custom CDs from the music of a wide array of bands
within the scene. We'll tell you more about that in the days to come.
I think the interface will be complete before the next issue pops up on
Feb 15. What else? Plenty more. Fun, funky stuff. Of course if I tell you
about it then I'll look doofy when it takes a while to come to fruition
(see above).
As for this month's issue, there is plenty of entertaining,
edifying stuff to be found. Did you see Erica's new column last month? If
not give this month's effort a read. Do you want to learn about the time
that Victor Wooten made a drummer hyperventilate on stage? Check out Jeff
Waful's interview. Do you want some info on the new Jazz Mandolin Project
CD which the group recorded in Trey Anastasio's barn? Read my interview
with Jamie. There's quite a bit more to be found, including
some commentary on both God Street Wine's final performances and Marc
Brownstein's departure from the Disco Biscuits (with
additional stories to come).
Finally, while my new cooking column didn't make it, we do have a game for
you- take a few moments for a Cyber Setbreak.
I like late January and early February because that's when many
bands start to pick it up and get back out on the road after a few weeks
of r&r (in many cases that's rehearsal and rehearsal). So head on out and
take in some new sounds from old friends, some old sounds from
new friends, some new sounds from new friends, some...
later days and peace,
Dean
