The Tao of Wu

So my folks just left from visiting me and the fam. I like it when they come over but my father usually throws in a little reference to tokin up when he's here. For example, I was mentioning to them how much we thought it would be cool to send out little cards to the neighbors, kinda introducing ourselves as neighbors and letting people know we are a "safe area" for kids and stuff and my dad throws out: "yeah maybe you can tell them this is the place to smoke joints too". What I really want to tell them is YES YES...this is a place for that kind of hoodlumming and hobnobbery. But I haven't...YET. One great challenge in my life is trying to explain my world to my parents. Don't get me wrong, they are very supportive. Its just I really want to bring them closer in the circle but I'm a little fearful of what they may interpret. More to come as things progress...

SO the Big Wu Family Reunion came and went over Memorial Day weekend. Once again I'm so blown over by this family of people that have grown up around us. Rained for two days straight, but it didn't stop us (US= band + everyone). When the sun came out, it was like god came and hung out with us for a while. All these people who suffered together through the cold and rain, showed very little wear and tear. Everyone was in spirit and it was great...and very little people left early which makes us feel wonderful!

Actually it was more like mist. Or as my good friend and guitar slinger Chris Castino said:

"Just pretend you are all broccoli in the produce section of your local supermarket".

(I thought that was pretty creative actually..)

The highlight for me was once again the spirit that surrounds us all when we (WE= band + everyone else there) get together to have some fun. There is something very cool going on that I think I'm starting to really understand: Acceptance, Love and Kindness are everywhere. Respect for one another and being in the Light together. It really blows me away how much people do for us...I don't recognize that enough. Its amazing what happens when a large group of people lets everything go for a weekend and just enjoys one anothers company; all differences aside. We are all just humans for one weekend...enjoying being together. That is about it in a nutshell. I can't really describe how much fun I had that weekend...but it was a huge sum of fun.

So another other weird thing I did was I started delivering pizza on call. I used to work at this pizza place in Inver Grove Heights MN. I called down to see if my old friend Brent was workin and low and behold he hasn't left for ten years. We get to talking and apparently the drivers are callin in sick alot. So...I went in for the night. Made $57 in tips and it was pretty fun. The faces people make when their pizza's show up are great. All eyes and smiles... I really don't have a reason to work at a pizza place though. So I'm just seeing what happens as a result of it....or who knows.

We are going on tour for about two weeks starting on Thursday. After that I'll come home and maybe deliver some more pizza.

Man...we had AMS out at the Family Reunion and if you haven't seen these guys yet you HAVE to. They stage show is awesome; the grooves are so original and smooth and cool baby. They are all way good people too...awesome people!!!

Oh yeah..I had two favorite musical experiences at the Family Reunion. One was seeing ULU jamming their collective asses off to the Super Mario Brother's theme....I got all misty eyed watching that kind of effort being put forth..plus the sky was changing thirty colors of blue as the sunset behind the bluffs. I lost it for sure...Ulu made me feel thankful I was alive and well and in pretty good health. I haven't zoned out to such a cool vibe in a long time. Thank you Ulu...

The other was meeting this guy named Jeff who is the Mandolin player in Yonder Mountain String Band. I'm sure he'd hate hearing this, but this guy is a shining example of humanity. That's all I have to say about that....DO NOT MISS the chance to see them and if you get to meet Jeff, try and absorb some of the love this person has to share with the world. It shows in the Yonder Mt. music too...you can feel it!

Man, when these musicians who simply blow me away turn out to be unbelievable people too its like I just scored the bomb. Did I mention my home was a safe-haven for kidz?

PS. We have a new LIVE CD from a pretty good show we did at the Fitzgerald Theater. I listened to it and it sounded ok to me. So if you are interested in hearing Big Wu Live and in concert, the cd is at http://www.radiophoenix.com ....however, no pressure. You'll find us if you really want to...

PSS Here is an article written by this "alternative" journalist for our Minneapolis beat paper CITY PAGES. But its cool because its from the perspective of someone who "hates hippy jambands". He actually ended up enjoying himself... http://www.citypages.com/databank/21/1015/article8669.asp

ok...cya in August!!!
