As I write this I about to head down to New York City for an evening at the
Beacon with the Allman Brothers Band (it's become a rite of Spring...) I could
extend some metaphor about seasonal rebirth and the return of Warren Haynes, etc but
I'll let that one pass. What I will do is encourage you to read Bob Makin's
interview with Warren and Gregg, you'll find some enlightening info, I promise.
Along these lines be sure to check out Jesse Jarnow's conversation with Bob Weir's
whose Ratdog continues to intrigue (if you haven't done so, yet listen to
Evening Moods- if you have, then do so again, it certainly rewards repeat spins ).
Moving beyond spring tours, April 6 is the premier of ALL ACCESS the IMAX film
produced by Wetlands owner (and Kind Media board member) Peter Shapiro. As I'm
sure many of you already know, ALL ACCESS presents a number of IMMENSE performers
(literally) including Sting, Carlos Santana, Kid Rock, George Clinton, Al Green,
Dave Mathews, Macy Gray and Sheryl Crow. In addition, the version of "Rock Me
Baby" featuring Trey Anastasio, BB King and the Roots is worth the price of
admission itself. All in all, ALL ACCESS is a celebration of the live music
experience and an intense rush that ultimately left me feeling as if I were in the
audience at an insane show, rather than just watching a film populated by some VERY
LARGE musicians. Read my interview with Pete to learn a bit more about the
logistics of putting it all together.
What else is new here? Well as I mentioned last month, the Jammys will take
place at New York's Roseland Ballroom. As you may remember from last year,
nominations came from musicians, industry folks and our community of readers (i.e. you).
Well this year's nomination process will begin this coming week via our weekly
newsletter. If you want to participate and you're not already a newsletter
subscriber send an email to
jambands.com-subscribe@listbot.com (please feel free to
spread the word as well).
In addition I would be remiss if I didn't extend an apology to all of you for
our web hiccups a few weeks ago. Our daily news drifted in and out for a few days
while our web host moved us to a new disk (and for a short while our index was
showing- ouch!). I will say this though, I was inundated from emails by people
lauding news editor Jeff Waful's efforts and letting us know how much they enjoy
reading his work (while lamenting, "You don't know what you have until it's
gone...")
Oh yes, a quick update on our daily review section. We held off on the launch
due to the move but I expect that it will appear within the next week or two.
Please check it out and participate ;)
As for the new issue. there's plenty of more great content to discover for
yourself, so go to it...
later days and peace,
Dean
