You'll be the first to know about these great new bands!

New additions to the Kind Music Catalog:

Soulive - "Doin' Something" CD - The long-awaited Blue Note Records debut from this wildly popular band is here! There's a heaping helping of slick, keyboard-driven jazz on this disc, highlighted by a horn section under the leadership of Fred Wesley (former James Brown trombonist). $16.00

Addison Groove Project - "Wicked Live" CD - Slithery funk grooves from one of the most energetic and intense young bands touring today! This sextet wowed the crowd at Berkfest 2000. Get a taste of their live show with this CD, recorded September 15, 2000 in their hometown of Saratoga Springs, NY. $12.00

10 Foot Ganja Plant - "Hillside Airstrip" CD - World-conscious roots/dub/reggae from this old-school outfit! Features members of John Brown's Body. This is vibrant music that uses techniques of the past and present to bring reggae into the millennium. $14.00

Honolulu Playboys - "Between Drinks" CD - I don't know what they are drinking, but the curious substance makes them churn out brain-splitting jazz/funk in the style of Soulive with a little less smoothness and a lot more bite! Just try and wrap your ears around the nonstop musical feats on this CD! $16.00

Rebecca's Statue T-shirts - Threads that rock as much as the band! One style is a deep green t-shirt with yellow "Rebecca's Statue" logo on the front, available in L or XL. The other style is a white t-shirt with burgundy rings around the neck and sleeves and a nice burgundy logo on front. $14.00 each

Agents of Good Roots - "Needle and Thread" CD - A very different album from this veteran jazz/rock group! This disc is comprised of nearly all new material with a couple of older favorites like "Jakob" and "Gotta Move" making appearances. There's a much more pronounced use of electronics and a focus on sound quality that really makes the songs sparkle. $15.00

Jemimah Puddleduck - self-titled CD - One of the most pleasant surprises of the year! This CD is laced with a sunny California vibe and plenty of musicianship! This band is made up of Mark Karan (guitar, The Other Ones), John Molo (drums, The Other Ones, Bruce Hornsby), Bob Gross (bass), and Arlan Schierbaum (keyboards), and is not afraid to explore new territory by stretching out their bluesy, psychedelic compositions. Fans of the Dead, Ekoostik Hookah, and Steve Kimock will dig this CD! $14.00

The Countdown Quartet - self-titled and "Party With!" CDs - One of the fastest rising bands on the east coast! This Chapel Hill, NC band is comprised partly of members of the famous Squirrel Nut Zippers. This group leans more toward funk and jazz than the Zippers, but still harbors the same good-time anything-goes philosophy in incorporating very disparate styles into one joyous sound. $14.00

Tim Reynolds - Various CDs - HGMN is now your source for the shape-shifting guitar style of Dave Matthews collaborator Tim Reynolds! Each CD is a separate entity, ranging from the harder-edged "Astral Projection" with a full band to the solo guitar of the double-disc "Sanctuary". Other titles include "Stream", The Puke Matrix Tour", "Gossip of the Neurons", and "See Into Your Soul". $15.00 each, $22.00 for double CD

Susan Tedeschi Band - "Better Days" CD - A hot seller already! This is the hard-to-find debut CD from this Grammy-nominated blues guitarist who has appeared with The Allman Brothers, Derek Trucks Band, Gov't Mule, and many more kind music heavyweights. $15.00

Merl Saunders and Friends - Various Titles - Killer stuff from organ master Merl Saunders! These CD's feature friends like Jerry Garcia, John Kahn, Bill Vitt, Tom Fogerty, David Grisman, Vassar Clements, and more! Titles include "Keystone Encores", Fire Up", and "Live at Keystone Vol. II". $15.00 each

Jupiter Coyote - "Waxing Moon" CD - More grooving southern sounds from this veteran band and Home Grown member! If you like the acoustic style of Strangefolk, Dave Matthews Band, and The Recipe, check these road warriors out! $14.00

The Other Ones - "The Strange Remain" CD - Two discs full of magical, one-of-a-kind live music! Recorded on Further Tour 1998, this live set features Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, Bruce Hornsby, Steve Kimock, Dave Ellis, John Molo, and Mark Karan performing the music of The Grateful Dead as well as specialty tunes by Hornsby and Hart. Includes great versions of "The Other One", "Estimated Prophet", Playing in the Band", and much more. Two discs. $21.00

Birdhouse - "Stumped" CD - From a deep, collective love of the boundless sonic and rhythmic possibilities of improvisation, a reverent nod to great past masters, and fierce dedication to the preservation of the art of live music, Birdhouse was born. The band is a brand new collaborative project between members of Maine's "The Beatroots" and Colorado's "From Cosmos to Chaos". Jazz, Rock, Old School Reggae, New Orleans, African and Latin rhythms, and more- every show is vested with improvisational energy from start to finish. CD features 7 original compositions and a few covers. $12.00

Blues Traveler - Various Titles - HGMN is now the place to get the complete Blues Traveler catalog! From the early studio discs ("Blues Traveler", "Travelers and Thieves"), the breakthroughs ("Save His Soul", "Four"), the live buffet ("Live from the Fall"), to the swan song of the original band ("Straight on Till Morning"), we have them all. Keep an eye on The Dancing Tree for info on the first Blues Traveler album in four years, coming March 20th! Check our website for prices.

Tree O Frogs - "Butter Your Lips" CD - That funk groove! This San Francisco quartet easily moves from chunky jazz to wah-wah funk and psychedelia. Dominating solos by sax and flute allow the vacuum-sealed (TIGHT) rhythm section to lock into unique grooves that are the backbone of this music. $12.00

Jason Crosby - "Out of the Box" CD - This absurdly talented multi-instrumentalist has performed with more musicians than I can begin to list. On this disc (his first "solo" effort), Jason is joined by Derek Trucks, Oteil Burbridge, Leo Nocentelli, Dave Diamond, Lo Faber, and many more. The dynamic results are simply amazing! $12.00

Phish - "The White Tape" CD - The revered foursome's first recording, The White Tape was released through Phish Dry Goods in 1999 and had been available only through mail order until now! Features full band tracks, new Pollock artwork, tracks done entirely by Trey, and his original cover art. $15.00

We are also carrying the full Phish DVD and VHS video section, which includes the full-length documentary "Bittersweet Motel" and two projects by bassist Mike Gordon, "Outside Out" (starring Col. Bruce Hampton) and "Tracking" (a glimpse into the recording of "Hoist"). Get your Phix at www.HomeGrownMusic.net !

Hello Dave - "Wicked Revelry" CD - Live Dave! Hello Dave has won a devoted following in the Midwest with their feelgood style of rock. Songs that seem to have been conceived on acoustic guitar are given life in the electrified live setting and complemented by meaningful vocals. Recorded live at Martyr's, Chicago, IL February 22, 2000. $12.00

That's all for this month!
