The Tao of Wu

Hey

I just spent eight weeks on the road with four guys. I'm home with my three girls now and its 2 1-derful.

The Big Wu continues to tour like mad. We now have a little time home to spend on rehearsing new material for this Memorial Day Weekend. We just had a rehearsal in our new space the other day and tore into about four newbies. More to come....What's goin on you ask? Like many many many many many other people we are hosting our third annual Big Wu Family Reunion in Black River Falls Wisconsin. Why should is this festival anything I should concern myself with you ask?

-Awesome Tunes. Ulu, Umphree's, All Mighty Senators, Madahoochi, Dean MacGraw (who rules...if you don't know Dean MacGraw you are missing out on one of the great insane guitar players in the world. Seriously. My dream is seeing him sit in with Phish. If for some reason I had two months to live, and I put a call into Make-A-Wish...I would request to attend a Phish show with Dean as special guest). The cool thing is that all the mainstagers get 2 hours of time to play with, not 75 minutes like you'll find at a lot of other festivals. See, its good to let the bands have enough time to stretch out and get weird. Cattle hearding as many bands as possible is gettin dull.

-Great Brew. There is a local brew microbrew company sponsoring the event. Get this, you buy a pint for 3.00....they will fill it to the top for you with Oatmeal Stouts, Heffer's, and the beer being brewed for The Family Reunion, THE GROOVY BREW. and then when you come back they'll fill it for you for 2.00. AND....AND....to top it off, the Pioneer Brew Co. is donating all the proceeds to the City of Black River Falls in order to build a new "Welcome to Black River Falls Info Rest Area". So the more you drink...the more money the town gets for their project. Kicks ass right. Yes it does. Town is happy...you are happy...we all are happy. (unless you don't really drink beer like myself, but its ok..we'll be wait while you get your brews...)

-The PEOPLE...the Family and the 2000 people who helped make last years Festival such a success will once again be there in full creative spirit and ever-abundant joy to welcome you. Be careful...it's catchy!

-The Second Stage will feature many local artists and musicians throughout the day as well as will be host to late night acoustic sessions. Basically we can play music all damn night and it won't be just open air acoustic music...it will be a monster PA with killer sound all night long.

-There is a parade that goes on Saturday night before we play...anyone can be a part of it. Just express yourSELF as creatively as you can and march along with the drums. Or bring you drums and be a part of the spirit. By the way...drum circles can go on all night...the park is big enough and there are no noise restrictions.

-Camping is Ten Bucks for the ENTIRE WEEKEND.
-Its 40 dollars for a ticket and 50 dollars at the gate.
-RAIN OR SHINE!

Its Memorial Day Weekend. Check it out. Great times. Positive vibrations provided by all of us who are putting this deal on. Its a lot of work...but worth it to throw down a kickass weekend of music and creative communal positivity. Keep it Kind.

...so enough plug about the Reunion. I can't wait. I love being a part of something like this.

...As of May 1st, me and the fam moved from Bloomington to South St. Paul and we are happy to be in our first home and hanging tough. Its busy here at home. Yesterday I mowed the lawn. Something I hadn't done for maybe ten years. When life is getting you down and things are bustin with ya, get out the TORO and mow a few yards. A fresh lawn is nice. My computer is set up in the basement now and I got plenty of crap that surrounds me.

...When we were vanning around last couple months, we were listening to a lot of early 70's Beach Boys music. Check it out when you have time.

---The Big Wu and Phoenix will be releasing "Live From the Fitzgerald" soon. We did this show at this theatre in St. Paul when we returned from Cali and points West and it turned out to be pretty ok. Sam Kopper recorded the show and it should be ready in a few weeks. Stay tuned. It's our second live disc...

About all for now folks. Write me: phlaash@aol.com

take care

jason
