Feedback: Dean Budnick

I'm writing in response to Zac's message in the Feedback section of the April issue saying that he felt that there were too many Dead and Phish references in the magazine. I think that it is absolutely necessary. Zac mentioned himself that these two bands have many more fans than many (if any) of the other bands in the jamband world, this means that when a metaphor needs to be made there will be a better chance that people will understand it if it involves the Dead or Phish. The problem with bringing up the Wrong Planet from 07.31.99 is that a lot of people reading may not even be able to place the band that you're talking about. The nice thing about referencing the other two bands, the Dead in particular, is that they are (how can I make this sound nice? Oh well, just keep in mind that Phish is at the top of my list) the common denominator. Even people who aren't very into the scenes will probably still have at least a working knowledge of the bands' works. If references to SCI or moe. were being made, it would alienate large portions of the readers (digression: while I love SCI, I'm not into moe.).

Anyway, that's all I got. Thanks for listening.
Later,
Ry (garylowe@mindspring.com)
