Home Grown Helpings: My name is Chad Yost and I am the music director for WELY radio in Ely Minnesota. We are looking for groove and jam type oriented bands for our nighttime music format. We are a funky, eclectic community radio station located in a destination tourist town. We have a community college in town and receive lots of requests for jam bands like Phish, WSP, Galactic, moe., String Cheese Incident, Leftover Salmon, Strangefolk, Rusted Root, The Big Wu, Allman Brothers, Little Feat, Grateful Dead, Blues Traveler, and many others. As a result, most of our nighttime programming (7 PM to Midnight) is dedicated to the groove and jam band type sound. We report our playlists to NAV, Crossroads, and a great new publication dedicated to small and independent labels called CD revolutions ( www.contrabandpublications.com). We are also starting to work with Gavin and plan to report to CMJ as well. Because of our destination tourist town status, our town and radio station have a cult following and we plan to start streaming our signal on the Internet in a few weeks at www.wely.com.
