Homegrown Happenings
by Marcie Vogel - marcie@homegrownmusic.net
Every month I look up at my calendar and realize that it's time for my column to be submitted. Every month I freak out and wonder what I can write about.see - I am not a writer. I am an editor. At least I play one on jambands.com. So as my life is about to turn upside down and keep me away from my computer for most of the summer (it's FESTIVAL season and I'll be on the road with the HGMN booth at lots and lots of great fests this summer. See below for more info), I ask all of you to please submit reviews of shows, CDs, anything that is Home Grown related, etc., to me so I can edit and post them. PLEASE!!!! This is your chance to be a famous writer and see your name in lights. Please send submissions to me at marcie@homegrownmusic.net.

Last month I told you about catalogs, catalogs and more catalogs!!! You can still request one by sending me an email or you can check it out online -www.homegrownmusic.net - the big news (drum roll please): YOU CAN NOW ORDER ONLINE!!!!!!! Head on over to our site and check it out!

I was going to take this opportunity to write about the mind-blowing Phil and Phriends shows I was extremely fortunate to see last month. It seems that there are many many reviews of them already so instead I am going to write about the PEOPLE. People like you are what keeps the bands going constantly. People that are open-minded and not afraid to check out a new band or CD. People that share the love for the music. People that I was lucky enough to cross paths with while out in San Francisco for the P&P shows or this past week while in New Orleans for Jazzfest. Festivarians, music freeks, soul shakers - you can call them whatever you want to. The simple truth is that PEOPLE who understand, who feel, who explore, who find peace within and without through the music - these people are what makes each and every performance different and special. To me at least. It IS all about the music, but for me (especially with the next 3 months of my life being spent out on the road meeting and greeting and basically living with these people) it is more about the people making, supporting, listening, dancing and feeling the music. It's the 55 year-old Deadhead standing next to me at the Warfield asking me the name of the Phish tune that just started and then listening very intently so as to not miss a note.then smiling and nodding in approval as it ended. It's the 5 year-old child at the festival who asks is she can borrow my markers and paper and can I help her with her drawing of the sun shining on all the dancers in front of the stage. It's all the curious ones who come up to the booth and ask what's new, who's hot, what have I been listening to and hey, have I heard about this new band.if not, I should. It's people like you that make my world a better place. I am really looking forward to meeting as many of you in person as I can this summer. If you're going to be at any of the following events, please stop by the Home Grown Music Booth or merch table on the Jambands tour and say hi and share a smile with me and my coworkers. Safe travels and many smiles to each and every one of you. Peace. Marcie
