Baba Olatunji has been forced to cancel his performance at the Gathering of the Vibes due to health reasons. The Wailers, who were originally scheduled to perform and then canceled because of a scheduling conflict, are now back on the bill. The festival begins tomorrow in Red Hook, NY and will run through Sunday. The line-up features Medeski, Martin & Wood, Tom Tom Club, Bruce Hornsby, Dickey Betts Band, John Scofield, Blue Floyd, Femi Kuti, Soulive, The Disco Biscuits, Steve Kimock Band, Baba Olatunji, Les Claypool’s Flying Frog Brigade, Merl Saunders and his Funky Friends, Max Creek, Zen Tricksters, Topaz, Deep Banana Blackout, Strangefolk, The Organically Grown Gospel Choir, Joules Graves, Robert Randolph, Sloan Wainwright, Wild Magnolias, Lake Trout, ulu, Uncle Sammy, Addison Groove Project, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, The Grapes of Vaudevillian Fantasy, The Rafter Bats, Upright Citizens Brigade and Murali Coryell.
On Saturday night, The Vibes will honor Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin with the Thirty Year Jam. The set will feature house band Blue Floyd, which consists of Matt Abts, Marc Ford, Johnny Neel and Berry Oakley Jr. Special guests will include Buddy Miles (The Band of gypsys), Ray Manzarek (The Doors), Deep Banana Blackout’s Fuzz, Rob Somerville, Bryan Smith and Hope Clayburn, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club), Jen Durkin (Bernie Worrell and the Woo Worriers), Mark Mercier and Scott Murawski (Max Creek), Robert Randolph, Andrew Gromiller (Tongue & Groove, Organically Grown Gospel Choir) and Brian Jordan (Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe).
