Leftover Salmon has signed with Compass Records and will release a new album, Live (pronounced ‘Liv’). The title of the album is a tribute to banjoist Mark Vann who passed away on March 4. Material on the CD was recorded live at The Fillmore, both in Denver and San Francisco, and at Salmonfest 2001. ‘The album starts off with ‘Gonna Have a Party,’ an old black string band tune, then heads into a festival feel that is simply about making fun with bluegrass music,’ says guitarist Vince Herman. ‘After ‘Gonna Have a Party’, the album takes off into airplane mode with John Hartford’s ‘Steam Powered Aereo Plane.’ Hartford’s a big hero of ours.’ Special guest John Cowan also appears on the album.
Live is due out on May 7. For details, visit www.compassrecords.com.
