Members of Boston-based Addison Groove Project took the stage with ulu Saturday at Nectars in Burlington, VT. Alto saxophonist Dave Adams, tenor saxophonist Ben Groppe and keyboardist Rob Marscher joined ulu for Thelonious Monks Well You Neednt in the second set. The venue, which has recently started booking free jam band shows again, is best known as Phish’s early stomping grounds in the mid-80’s. (Although contrary to popular legend, the gravy fries are a bit overrated).
Addison was in town for a performance at Burlingtons Discovery Jazz Festival. Both AGP and ulu specialize in funk/jazz fusion and enjoy large regional followings in the Northeast.
ulu plays Wednesday at Tribeca Blues in New York City. The groups schedule can be found at ulu.net.
