A new project called Big Elvis will make its debut this week in Canada. The group features bassist Bobby Vega (KVHW, Zero), drummer Alan Hertz (KVHW, Garaj Mahal), guitarist Ray White (KVHW, Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention), keyboardist Eric Levy (Garaj Mahal) and guitarist Tal Morris (Sons of Champlin). The band will perform at two all-star events, Whistlejam June 13 at The Boot in Whistler, B.C., and Vansterjam June 14 at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, B.C. The June 14 show will also feature the remaining members of Garaj Mahal – guitarist Fareed Haque, bassist Kai Eckhardt and new vocalist Nicholas Barron. For this show, a coin will be flipped at the beginning of the night to determine if Garaj Mahal or Big Elvis will take the stage first (Hertz and Levy will perform with both groups). After the bands have each played a 90 minute set, an all-star jam will ensue with various collaborations expected.
