Audley Freed, Matt Abts and Johnny Neel headed to New Yorks Tobacco Road to grab a beer Saturday night with the hope that maybe theyd be able to jam (the musicians had played a few Beatle Jam shows as Blue Floyd earlier in the week and were looking for something to do when their Philadelphia show was canceled). Raisinhill was performing, but during set break the club agreed to let the musicians jump on stage for an impromptu set that last nearly 90 minutes. The line-up included Freed (guitar, Black Crowes), Abts (drums, Govt Mule), Neel (keyboards, Allman Brothers) and Mike Farris (vocals, Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies). The group needed a bassist, so bartender Bradley Wegner (a member of Jimsonweed, a New York-based band) took the stage as well. The set included mostly blues standards and long jams. Raisinhill returned for another set later in the night.
