Guitarist Shawn Lane passed away Friday in Memphis, TN due to complications of lung disease. Lane had been a musician since the age of four and began his recording career at twelve. In 1992, he released _ Powers of Ten_ on Warner Brothers and was named Best New Talent by Guitar Player Magazine a few months later. He collaborated with bassist Jonas Hellborg and drummer Jeff Sipe on the much heralded 1996 album, _ Temporal Analogues of Paradise_. Lane and Hellborg would go on to work together often, releasing Time is the Enemy in 1997 and Personae in 2002. In 2001, Shawn released Tri-Tone Fascination, which featured Luther and Cody Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars, along with bassist Paul Taylor and guitarist Buddy Davis. Later that year, he cut back on performing as his health problems began. This summer, plans were in the works for a new album featuring Lane, Hellborg and drummer Ginger Baker.
A wake will be held tomorrow evening from 5 9 at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis, TN. A funeral is scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m. For more details, visit www.noproblemhere.com.
