Yonder Mountain String Band Performs as Cosmic Bowling League
The Yonder Mountain String Band presented a bonus set on New Year’s Eve at Denver’s Paramount Theater as the Cosmic Bowling League. Costumed in bowling finery, the CBL played a set of bluegrass standards including ‘Man of Constant Sorrow’ and ‘Rocky Top.’ The quartet then returned for two sets as Yonder, completing four hours of music.
At the Boulder Theater on the previous night, during the first of a two-show sold-out NYE run, Hot Rize’s Pete Wernick appeared with Yonder, as did Benny ‘Burle’ Galloway (who also sat in on December 31). Yonder also held a food and clothing drive during the two gigs with proceeds going to the Boulder County Safehouse.
After a brief break Yonder will return to the road January 31 with a show at the Pageant in St. Louis, MO.
Members of the Wailers performed the Bob Marley classic ‘Exodus’ with ekoostik hookah on December 31. Gary Pine (vocals), Vin Gordon (trombone), Glen DaCosta (saxophone), Ras Mel Glover (acoustic guitar), Earl Smith (guitar), Ernest ‘Drummie Zeb’ Williams (drums) all sat in for the song during the first of two Hookah sets at the PromoWest Pavilion in Columbus, OH. The Wailers had opened the show.
Ekoostik Hookah which is celebrating the release of its latest disc Ohio Grown, will travel to the Wailers’ homeland for a week of music on March 29-April. Information is available the band’s web site.
