Scolohofo is a quartet featuring guitarist John Scofield, saxophonist Joe Lovano, bassist Dave Holland and drummer Al Foster. Like Modereko (in its original incarnation), the group draws its moniker from each musicians last name. The band, which toured in 1999 and 2002, recently spent two days in the studio recording its debut album. All of the tracks were recorded live with no overdubs. Titled Oh!, the disc is due out January 28 on Blue Note Records. We wanted to put together a group that had no leader,’ says Scofield. ‘When Joe and I first talked about getting together again to make music, we immediately thought of Dave and Al. Both of us had played with them and knew they’d be the best guys to round out a quartet. Fortunately, they agreed.’ (Joe was a member of Scofields quartet from 1989 1993).

The band will perform six nights at Iridium Jazz Club in New York City from February 4 9. There will be an 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. show each night. To make reservations, call 212-582-2121.
