Keyboardist Danny Louis joined the Allman Brothers Band last night as the group kicked off its 13-night run at the Beacon Theater in New York City. Louis (Gregg Allman and Friends, Govt Mule) emerged during the encore, Southbound. The show also included the rarely played Wasted Words, which opened the show, as well as material off of the ABBs new album, Hittin the Note – a cover of Freddy King’s Woman Across the River, High Cost of Low Living, ‘Desdemona,’ Warren Hanyes’ acoustic Old Friend and the jazz fusion of Instrumental Illness. The disc, which Gregg Allman calls the bands best since Eat a Peach, hits stores this Tuesday.
The Brothers return to the Beacon tonight. For the complete itinerary, visit www.allmanbrothersband.com.
