NEW ORLEANS Several musicians joined Robert Randolph & the Family Band last night at Twi-Ro-Pa. Soulive guitarist Eric Krasno sat in for a few songs, including Shake Your Hips, during which several females from the crowd jumped on stage to act out the song title. Galactic vocalist Theryl Houseman deClouet then emerged for Curtis Mayfields People Get Ready. The song also featured Randolph playing a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar, a somewhat rare occurrence for the pedal steel player. Fluglehorn player Efram Towns and baritone saxophonist Roger Lewis from the Dirty Dozen Brass Band came out next, for Purple Haze and Sly and the Family Stones Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) with Ivan Neville taking over on keys and lead vocals.
It was hot, said an elated Randolph following the show. We were all loving it. We had great fans, great music and its just such great fun here in New Orleans.
