The nominations list for the 46th annual Grammys was released today. A number of artists we cover at the site are up for awards, including Robert Randolph and the Family Band which received a nomination for Best Rock Gospel Album (_Unclassified_) as well as one for Best Rock Instrumental Performance (‘Squeeze’ off Unclassified). In the latter instance the group will be competing with the Allman Brothers Band which received a nod for ‘Instrumental Illness’ (this category is filled out by Jeff Beck ‘Plan B’ Steve Vai ‘Essence’ and Linkin Park (!?!) ‘Session’). Susan Tedeschi’s Wait For Me is up for Best Contemporary Blues Album.

In addition, Chick Corea received three nominations for the music from his Rendezvous In New York release, an album that was executive produced by former Wetlands owner Peter Shapiro and his brother Jon. Other nominees include The Del McCoury Band’s It’s Just The Night (Best Bluegrass Album). The Roots’ Phrenology (Best Rap Album) as well as the title track from A Mighty Wind (Best Song Written For A Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media). The field for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance features Bob Dylan, Dave Matthews, Lenny Kravitz, David Bowie and Tom Waits.
The nominees for the best jamband album were…actually there isn’t a category although if you’re one of those folks who thinks that jamband is an undefinable category consider that there is an award given to ‘Best Alternative Music Album’ (which is certainly a subjective matter). At any rate, hang on, the nominations for the 2004 Jammy Awards will follow in early January.
