Despite the imagery that its name may evoke, the Greening Jam Cruise project is not a endeavor devoted for sneaking herbs onto the two festival boats when they depart in early January but rather it is a volunteer, fan-based endeavor tied into the Cruises. The organization has explained that its intent is ‘to show by example that it’s really pretty easy to have a positive impact on the world we all live in.’ To this end, the group is seeking to raise funds towards the purchase of trees for a community planting in Nassau and the Bahamas, with additional money supporting Reef Relief & reEarth two non-profits that also focus on the area the boats will visit. Greening Jam Cruise is now raising fund for this venture through an auction facilitated by the Mimi Fishman Organization. Items now up for bidding include a Takamine guitar signed by The String Cheese Incident, a drum head used by Michael Travis and signed by SCI, and a pair of 4-day passes to next summer’s High Sierra Music Festival.
