Fabled New Orleans concert venue Tipitina’s will host five days of music from January 14-18 to celebrate its 26th Anniversary. On January 14 the Anniversary night proper will feature Bo Dollis and the Wild Magnolias, the quintessential area group that emerged from the rich traditions of the Mardi Gras parades. The next night drummer Johnny Vidacovich will assemble a collection of Crescent City players including George Porter, Jr., Anders Osborne and John Gros (one might expect that his former student and current collaborator Stanton Moore would join in but for the fact that the Galactic drummer will be in Ft. Lauderdale opening the band’s post-Jam Cruise Florida run). Another significant event will be the Founder’s Ball on Friday January 17 with appearances by Zigaboo Modeliste, George Porter, Jr, Cyril & Ivan Neville, June Yamaguchi, Mark Mullins and many others. The Tipitina’s website offers details on the the Anniversary performances as well as preceding events, including tomorrow night’s New Year’s Eve twin bill from Rebirth Brass Band and Papa Grows Funk.
