Schleigho will continue its three night stand this evening at Walt Disney World’s Pleasure Island Jazz Club in Orlando. In this setting the band is slated to perform four sets of music (although last night the quartet jettisoned one of these due to a private party). The first set reflected the current range and direction of the band, as Schleigho opened with Pat Martino’s ‘Bayina’ and then moved into ‘Janell,’ an as-yet-unrecorded original composition by bassist Paco Mahone, (written for his girlfriend and titled for her middle name). Later highlights included a stirring version of Herbie Hancock’s ‘Actual Proof’ enlivened by Jesse Gibbons piano. Schleigho, which is continuing to work on its next release, will return to Disney tonight and tomorrow, followed by a gig at the Masquerade Club in Tampa on Sunday (before returning to the northeast where guitarist/flautist Suke Cerulo and drummer Erik Egol have been playing with Lynch).
