Maktub singer Reggie Watts is going to sing with Soulive on its upcoming tour and may well perform with the band throughout the year. Watts, whose voice most often elicit comparisons to Al Green, also draws on broader influences including Chris Cornell and Robert Plant. Soulive’s line-up parallel Watts’ elastic vocals, expanding to a quartet with the addition of Sam Kininger back in 2002 and also touring with a full horn section on occasion. The group, which is nominated for a Live Performance of the Year Jammy for its 4/30/03 Tipitina’s gig that also featured John Scofield, Fred Wesley, Nicholas Payton and Karl Denson, will open its upcoming tour at Colby College in Waterville, ME on February 6 and continue through the 14th at Downtown in Farmingdale, NY. At present there are no Maktub gigs scheduled for 2004.
