As the Zen Tricksters return to electric performances, the band has finally announced its new drummer. Joe Ciarvella, who studied music at Penn State and recently played with the PA-based Dakini, will now tour with the group. Ciarvella, whose favorite drummers include Elvin Jones, Tony Williams, Jon Fishman, and the Deads Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, notes that Some of my greatest drumming inspiration has come from such non-drummers as Jerry Garcia, Jimi Hendrix, and Charlie Parker. Jeff Mattson, Zen Tricksters founder and lead guitarist observes, We wanted to find a like-minded musician for whom it was a biological imperative to play live music, not just a life choice. Joe is not only incredibly talented, but comes from that same music-obsessed place as the rest of us! Joe will play his first show this Saturday night at the River Street Jazz Cafn Plains, PA.
