The String Cheese Incident performed four sets over three days this past weekend at the Jerry Garcia Birthday Bash, which took place at Sunshine Daydream in Terra Alta, WV. The group offered two musical tributes, debuting the Garcia/Hunter composition ‘Deal’ on Friday night and then ‘Super Freak’ on Saturday (for the late Rick James). The festival setting also facilitated a series of guest appearances, as on Friday Derek Trucks added guitar to a few songs including ‘Outside Inside’ and ‘Footprints’ and on Saturday all of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones joined in for ‘Birdland’ after which Fleck and Jeff Coffin remained on stage for ‘San Jose.’ Later that day Fareed Haque contributed guitar and Michael Shrieve lent percussion to ‘MLT.’ Speaking of percussion, Jason Hann (Zoo People) performed with SCI the entire weekend (Hann had guested with SCI on July 25 at The Joint in Las Vegas, NV).
