Tom Dowd and the Language of Music will begin its nationwide theatrical release today. The film will play at a number of art houses across the country over the coming weeks. Dowd, who passed away in 2002, may be best known to Jambands.com readers as the producer of multiple Allman Brothers Band albums including Live at Fillmore East but he also worked with numerous other artists, such as Aretha Franklin, John Coltrane, Eric Clapton Ray Charles, many of whom appear in the film. Prior to this, as a teenager his affinity for physics led him to work on the Manhattan Project. All of these topics are covered in this fascinating film, which will receive a DVD release on August 24.
