For his first public performance since Phish parted ways, Trey Anastasio joined the Vermont Youth Orchestra at Carnegie Hall last night, sitting in for a pair of his own compositions. In celebration of its Carnegie Hall debut, the VYO offered a two-hour program devoted exclusively to the work of Vermont composers, including Thomas L. Read, David Ludwig, David Gunn, VYO conductor Troy Peters, and Ernie Stires, Anastasio’s mentor. Anastasio joined the VYO for the evening’s final two songs, ‘The Inlaw Josie Wales’ and an unannounced take on ‘Flock of Words.’ Earlier in the evening, the VYO also performed Anastasio’s orchestrated version of ‘Guyute,’ which the orchestra debuted at the Troy Savings Bank in February 2001.

While this mark’s the VYO’s first Carnegie Hall appearance, Anastasio is already a seasoned veteran, having performed at the famed music hall’s Tibet House Benefits in ’99 and ’00.
