Two musicians whose art is deeply entwined with their religious backgrounds appeared with the Derek Trucks Band at the Spirit Performance Center In New York City on Saturday. Orthodox Jew Yosi Piamenta appeared during the version of Volunteered Slavery that closed out the bands set. Then during the encore, Chuck Campbell, whose pedal steel echoes the traditions of the Holiness-Pentecostal church, sat in for Joyful Noise along with Denise Brown. Trucks had appeared during the Campbell Brothers opening set during Don’t Let The Devil Ride.
