Surprise Me Mr. Davis , a unique teaming of The Slip and Nathan Moore, had a bit of fun at the expense of Marco Benevento last night. After being literally pulled out of the audience, and onto the Knitting Factorys intimate stage, Benevento played around on several keyboard toys, including a melodica and a small-keyboard stationed behind Andrew Barrs drum kit. Between songs, Mr. Davis magically cut Benevento in half, using a stage length piece of rope. The Duo organist laughed off his dissection: So this is the after life, he joked after the magic prank. Later in the evening, the band also engaged in an extensive kazoo duel with its audience.

Last nights performance served as a sneak peak of an upcoming Knitting Factory gig. On Saturday, Benevento will team with the Slips Marc Friedman for a set rounded out by Wayne Krantz, Ari Hoenig and DJ Olive. Tonight, Surprise Me Mr. Davis will perform in Syracuse, NY.
