Last night, the Allman Brothers Band kicked off its spring run with Lynyrd Skynyrd at San Diego, CA’s Bayside Embarkadero. While Warren Haynes did not
join the southern-rock icons for jam out of ‘Freebird,’ the Allman Brothers Band did welcome a variety of family members to the stage throughout the weekend. Friday night, at Los Angeles’ Greek Theater, Barry Oakley Jr., son of the late Allmans founder, joined the Brothers on bass for a version of ‘Soulshine.’ Later in the evening, during the group’s encore, Oakley returned to the stage for a run through ‘One Way Out.’ A night later, Susan Tedeschi, who also happens to be Derek Trucks’ wife, added vocals and guitar to a cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright’ at the Santa Barbara Bowl. The Allman Brothers Band’s outing with Lynyrd Skynyrd will continue tomorrow at the Sandia Casino Amphitheatre in Albuquerque, NM. _ Reporting by Mike Sherry_
