Warren Haynes, Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews, Calvin Cooke, Ted Beard, Aubrey Ghent, The Lee Boys and The Blind Boys of Alabama are among the artists who appear in Press On, Gillian Grisman’s new feature film tracking the rise of Robert Randolph. Using the lauded pedal-steel guitarist’s career as a launching point, Press On also explores the sacred steel tradition within an intimate network of House of God Churches. Several years in the making, Press On follows Grisman’s successful debut, Grateful Dawg, which offered a look at the friendship between her father, David Grisman, and Jerry Garcia. Press On recently premiered at the 2005 SXSW Film Festival followed by well-received screenings at Full Frame Documentary Festival and Nashville Film Festival. In June it will travel coast-to-coast from the Newport International Film Festival to San Francisco Black Film Festival, and on to AFI/Discovery SilverDocs
