On September 18th, 2004 at Black Oak Ranch in Laytonville, CA Mickey Hart and 4,373 other percussionists created a drum circle. This circle which took place as part of Earthdance: The Global Festival For Peace also featured numerous other notables including Zakir Hussain, Sikuru Adepoju, Airto Moreira and Karl Perazzo. The Guinness Book of World Records has now designated it as the Largest Drum Ensemble, breaking the prior record by more than 1000. This year Earthdance will return on September 16-18 at the Black Oak Ranch in Laytonville. Festival organizers dont have any large-scale percussion plans but instead will link up with more than 150 cities and simultaneously play a song called Prayer for Peace.
