A number of notable Bay Area musicians will join forces to celebrate the life of Summer of Love visionary Chet Helms. Helms passed away earlier this summer after suffering a stroke, leaving behind a rich cultural legacy. This Friday, T Bone Burnett, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Flying Other Brothers, David Nelson, Country Joe McDonald, Terry Haggerty, Leigh Stephens, Bobby Vega and Joli Valenti & Friends will join forces at San Franciscos Great American Music Hall for Chet Fest, an evening benefit for Helms family. Wavy Gravy will serve as the events master of ceremonies and ailing keyboardist Merl Saunders has thrown his support behind the evening benefit. Big Brother & the Holding Company, a group Helms co-founded and managed, will also perform.
