From Friday to Sunday Garrettsville, OHs Nelson Ledges Quarry Park hosted a Summer Hookah Weekend which featured collaborations between several unlikely players. Saturday’s events started with a solo set by Brazilian percussionist Airto Moreira which led into a percussion and turntable jam featuring DJ Logic, ekoostik hookahs Johnny Polansky and Louisiana zydeco musician Terrence Simien. Later in the day, ekoostik hookah welcomed Moreira back for an extended drum jam in the middle of Dave Katz’s ‘Life is Good. Moreira and Logic also joined in for a version of Ed McGee’s ‘Float’ and the Grateful Deads ‘Cumberland Blues’.

Later that night, Moreira, Polansky and Logic also performed an impromptu set on the parks newly added second stage. Drummer Seth Kafoure, from McGee and Polansky’s new project One Under, also joined in the late-night activities. Polansky, McGee and Kafoure will perform with One Under at Nelson Ledges on August 21 during Gratefulfest.
