Matthew Kelly has performed with Bob Weir on-and-off for well over twenty-five years playing harmonica, guitar and percussion in such projects as Kingfish, Bobby & the Midnites and an early, blues-based incarnation of RatDog. Since parting ways with RatDog in September of 1998, Kelly has kept a relatively low profile, managing Kingfish’s back catalogue from his home in Thailand. Last night, though Kelly joined his former collaborator onstage during RatDog’s performance at South Burlington, VT’s Higher Ground. Kelly performed for much of the band’s two-set show including a take on the old Kingfish cover ‘Next Time You See Me’ which RatDog has not played since his departure. RatDog’s next stop is an opening spot for the Steve Miller Band at Mansfield, MA’s Great Woods Friday evening.
