Former Ally drummer, and frequent Disco Biscuits collaborator, Mike Greenfield sat in with the Quagmire Swim Team Saturday night at Philadelphias North Star. Greenfield joined the Pennsylvania-quartet for a version of the groups own Coming Back To You at the tail end of its groups set.. Greenfield arrived onstage partway through the songs jam, switching back and forth seamlessly with Quagmire drummer Marshall Deasy. The show was special for another reason it was the birthday of Quagmires official Number One Fan Ryan Diehl who wrote the setlist for the show as a gift from the band.
The Disco Biscuit and Quagmire Swim Team have merged at North Star in the past. The last time Quagmire Swim Team played the North Star, two years ago, the Disco Biscuits Aron Magner sat in on keytar for a 30-minute version of Michael Jacksons Thriller and Weens Spinal Meningitis. Several weeks before that cameo, the Disco Biscuits’ Jon Gutwillig sat in with the band in their hometown of Mechanicsburg, PA for the majority of their first set, covering Biscuits tunes (including an inverted ‘Above the Waves’ which was sandwiched by Pink Floyd’s ‘Have a Cigar,’ ‘Svenghali,’ and ‘Pilin’ It High’) and a Quagmire original that veered briefly into ‘Very Moon. The Quagmire Swim Team is off the road until its performance at the Little Falls, NYs Beardsley Castle Saturday, while Mike Greenfield will make a special appearance with the Disco Biscuits at its New York Katrina relief concert at Spirit tomorrow night.
