Saxophonist Martin Fierro is best known for his work in the Legion of Mary, a famed 1970s ensemble also featuring Jerry Garcia and Merl Saunders. While Fierro seemed to slip off the radar in recent years, the saxophonist has had a busy Summer of Jerry paying tribute to his former bandmate onstage, in the press and through the latest releases from the Legion of Mary archives. Last night Fierro also made an appearance with the current version of Steve Kimocks band—-featuring Rodney Holmes, Robert Walter and Jacob Fred Jazz Odysseys Reed Mathis—-at Petaluma , CAs Mystic Theater. Fierro joined the group for a good portion of its second set including Cole’s Law, Tangled Hangers, You’re the One and Tongue ‘n’ Groove. The Steve Kimock Band will appear next at Solana Beach, CAs Belly Up on September 22
