Tomorrow Michael Franti will perform his first date on Lonely Planet’s Passport To The World Tour at New York’s Spirit. Currently only 23% of Americans have a passport sealing much of the country off from interacting with the international community. Franti will join a roaster which includes an international mix of DJs, musicians and other ‘freaky fun.’

‘There is so much misunderstanding between America and other countries,’ Franti tells Jambands.com. “In this time the best way to solve this problem is for Americans to travel abroad and interact.’
The tour will also serves as a launch party for Lonely Planet’s Book 52 Reasons To Have A Passport and coincides with the first annual national passport month. Lonely Planet’s Passport To The World Tour will continue onto Chicago for a night at the Park West on September 24 and to San Francisco for a performance at The Mezzanine on September 30. ‘Music is a great for America,’ Franti says. ‘We have a rich history and are a diverse cultural melting pot. When I traveled to Iraq it was eye opening for people to see an American arriving with a guitar instead of only seeing a solider with an M16.’
